The collection
The collections include stories about the migration history of Surinamese and other immigrant groups, the colonial and slavery past, and hidden stories of its knock-on effects in the form of racism and discrimination. From these stories we can learn lessons for contemporary issues such as diversity and inclusion in the labor market, in education and more.
Tour
The tour begins with an introduction and tour of our archives, and afterward, participants can view our pop-up exhibit. There will also be room for dialogue and a Q&A. During the tour, we can address some aspects of Black history and culture. In consultation, we can also highlight other topics. How and why was The Black Archives founded and why is it important to document Black history and culture.
The history of the Dutch slavery past in the broader historical context of Dutch/European colonialism with a focus on 'key figures' from different camps (heroes and settlers). The legacy and carry-over of the colonial and slavery past into the present in the form of everyday and institutional racism, discrimination and inequality (e.g. labor market discrimination, allowance affair, etc.).
